Newspaper and periodical articles; essays, journals, and diaries; photographs; tape-recorded interviews; and copies of official bulletins and documents related to the Loma Prieta Earthquake (October 17, 1989) and its effects in Santa Cruz County. Includes material specifically on the effects of the earthquake on the University of California Santa Cruz, including items issued by the campus Public Relations Office. Includes photographs by Al Lowry and Hans Schermann, essays by Jeff Marshall, items from the Mintie White School, and various materials from the Santa Cruz Transit District. Also includes thirty-five cassette tapes by Nikki Silva containing on-the-street recordings of earthquake events as well as interviews with Santa Cruz County residents affected the earthquake. Much of the collection consists of photocopies of originals held elsewhere.
